03.14.15 Stephanie (Jensen) & Jake Martin

When I met Jake at Sloopy’s bar during a Badger football game, it wasn’t love at first sight. He thought I was stuck-up; I thought he was arrogant. When one of my girlfriends started dating one of his friends, our run-ins became more frequent. Many weeks later, after some liquid courage and our usual banter, Jake kissed me. (Ask Jake, and he will say I kissed him.) Our distaste for one other had suddenly turned into love!

Six months later, Jake walked into my house, handed me a brown paper bag containing flowers and a little black box, and told me he wanted to marry me. He cried. I laughed and said, “Yes.” Our wedding was an adult-only, elegant, and intimate celebration. Following tradition, Jake and I stayed in separate houses the night before our wedding, but on the morning of the wedding, while everyone was still asleep, I snuck out of my parents’ house and drove to Jake’s. I was wearing my pajamas and didn’t even bother to put on shoes. I was insanely nervous about the attention Jake and I were going to receive that day. I knocked on the door until he woke and answered. I hugged him and told him I couldn’t wait to marry him. We held each other for a while, and then I returned to my parents’ before anyone thought I had become a runaway bride.

Our wedding went off without a hitch on that sunny, March, 65-degree day. In the company of our closest friends and family, Jake vowed to be my partner in crime, and I vowed not to spend all of our money at TJ Maxx. One of my fondest memories of the day is my father’s speech about how my mother is his wife and best friend. Throughout the day, we laughed, cried, ate delicious food, drank cocktails, and danced the night away. TWM
