06.21.14 Laura (Kuisle) & Travis Hawley

Travis and I met at Winona State University our freshman year of college. Two years into our relationship, Travis joined the United States Air Force and got stationed in Texas.  I stayed in Winona to complete the nursing program. During that year apart, we endured the challenges of a long-distance relationship. During the Christmas holiday of my last year at Winona State, Travis was on leave and created a scavenger hunt for me. At the end, I found Travis down on one knee! Of course, I said “yes!”

Travis and I wanted our wedding to be in Southern Minnesota, where we were both raised and most of our family still resides. Our wedding date was the anniversary of my grandparents’ wedding. My grandmother had passed away the previous summer. To our pleasant surprise, it also happened to be summer solstice! We wanted our wedding to have a bright summery feel. I decided to DIY our invitations, programs, and centerpieces to ensure a consistent color scheme. My mom hand-sewed my cathedral veil as a special gift. It was a perfect match for my dress.  Travis and I chose not to see each other before the ceremony. Walking down the aisle with my Dad and seeing the look on Travis’ face is a moment I will never forget.

We traveled to our reception on a trolley and had the best night of our lives celebrating with family and friends. The dinner was delicious, and to cool everyone off, we topped it off with an ice cream bar instead of cake. Our venue was picture-perfect, and guests had an opportunity to step out on the balcony and enjoy the beautiful weather and gorgeous view. The photo booth was a blast, and the DJ kept our guests dancing until after midnight. For us, it was the perfect day. TWM
